Zephyr is a portal, designed to help locate the available books, scientific journals and other material in the catalogues of the Greek Academic Libraries. It offers a user friendly environment and its structure is based on the Z39.50 protocol.
Zephyr was created by the Information and Technology Services Unit of the University of Crete Library. The basic concept during its planning and application was to make an integrated environment for bibliographic information search and retrieval, using the databases of the Greek Academic libraries. Emphasis was placed on the development of advanced services to users, such as the creation of a personal page on which, for example, selected search and records can be saved.
The project was implemented as part of the programme "Developing Digital Collaboration of the Greek Academic Libraries" (Libraries Horizontal Action, 3rd Community Support Framework 2000-2006, known also as 3rd CSF).
